Venice, CA (April 27, 2012) – In just eleven days, booming social media iPhone app VIDDY has racked up more than 5.5 million additional users, making it the #1 free app in the Apple Marketplace and in turn, has attracted a variety of celebrity users from coast-to-coast.

Since launching last year, VIDDY, which many are hailing as the video version of Instagram, has banked more than 15 million users with over 500,000 new users joining each day. The app lets users shoot and share 15-second video clips using Adobe and Final Cut style visual effects pre-bundled into one-click production packages, similar to an Instagram filter – for video.

Celebrities all across the board have taken notice, with many creating their own user accounts, enabling them to share intimate short videos of their lives with the entire world. Celebrity VIDDY users include Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, Paris Hilton, Linkin Park, Bill Cosby, T-Pain, Wiz Khalifa, Meek Mill, Jamie Kennedy, Katie Couric, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lennox Lewis (boxer), Warren Sapp (NFL), Michael Strahan (NFL), Jimmie Johnson (NASCAR), Mickie James (TNA) and Batista (WWE), among others.

Stars and entertainment industry gurus are not only joining VIDDY for social media purposes but also as financial backers. This week, The New York Times reported that Roc Nation, (founded by Jay-Z, which manages artists like Rihanna) and Overbrook Entertainment (founded by Will Smith) have climbed aboard as investors. The New York Times also confirmed Twitter co-founder Biz Stone as a backer.

“Celebrities and influencers use Viddy to connect directly with their fans and creatively share moments in their lives through video," says Brett O’Brien, VIDDY’s co-founder and CEO.  "Viddy’s community-based platform is welcoming over 500,000 new users a day, including musicians, actors, sports stars, personalities, and technology leaders."

VIDDY version 1.6.0 is available for free download in the Apple App Store:
