Daniela Nardi's US Album Debut

Introducing Daniela Nardi’s US debut album:

Expresso Manifesto – The Songs of Italy’s Paolo Conte

–In Stores & online July 11, 2012 on Acronym Records/EMI Music Canada & iTunes

"Daniela Nardi’s Espresso Manifesto turns out to be a brilliant homage to legendary singer/songwriter Paolo Conte. With beautiful arrangements very respectful of the original songs, Nardi majestically takes on this brilliant, jazz-inflected repertoire.”

~ Stanley Péan of “Quand le jazz est là,”CBC/Radio-Canada's Espace Musique.

New York, NY – One of Canada’s most celebrated homegrown artists, Daniela Nardi releases her stunning new Jazz/World music album: Espresso Manifesto –The Songs of Paolo Conte on July 11, 2012 through Acronym Records/EMI Music Canada. For more information please visit www.danielanardi.com

Award-winning singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Daniela Nardi shares her signature interpretations of the songs by legendary Italian artist Paolo Conte, whose stature in Italy is comparable to that of Jacques Brel in France or Tom Waits in America. Under the project title Espresso Manifesto, the Toronto-born daughter of Italian immigrants explores some adventurous and new creative territory on this album that has required her to step out of her musical comfort zone and into the wondrous exploration of the Italian Songbook.

Because Conte's work has such a strong male character, the project was extremely challenging from a female's perspective. Nardi has, however, managed to record a full album of his sometimes dark but ironic work, and draws on Conte's more vulnerable, emotional material. Her passionate re-workings of such stirring vintage numbers as the plaintive, haunting, tango-inspired "Gioco D'Azzardo," the beautifully bittersweet" Nina," the punchy, playful "Via Con Me" and the breezy, swinging "Gelato al Limon," offer powerful testimony to both Conte's enduring genius and Nardi's singular interpretive skills. The result is a transcendent cultural experience.

Nardi and her husband, renowned jazz pianist/composer Ron Davis, travelled to Italy to record the album at Elettra Studios in Italy's Umbriaregion. Produced by Nardi, with co-production from Davis and legendary producer/engineer Pasquale Minieri (Elisa, Vinicio Capossela, Gianmaria Testa, Francesco DeGregori), they utilized the talents of a prestigious group of top-flight players drawn from Italy's most vibrant jazz community. Already in high rotation on CBC (Canada’s nationalradio), as well as Espace Musique, the players on the 12-track album include Dario Rosciglione (bass – Danilo Rea, Mario Biondi, Norah Jones) Fausto Mesolella (guitars – Avion Travel, Paolo Conte, Gianmaria Testa), Michele Rabbia (percussion – Stefano Battaglia), Luciano Biondini (accordion – RitaMarcotulli, Enrico Rava, Ivano Fossati) Fabrizio Bosso (trumpet), Gabriele Mirabassi (clarinet – Gianmaria Testa, Holly Cole) and Marcello DiLeonardo (drums – Stefania Rava, Battista Lean, Rosario Giuliani).

“Espresso. The ultimate symbol of all things Italian. Dark. Rich. Earthy. Complex yet effortless. Elegant yet primal. Hot. When made in the right way, the only way, it is like nothing you have ever known. This is Italy to me. If one person embodies all these elements, it’s Paolo Conte. His music, his lyrics, the experience; as Italian as Espresso.

This is my manifesto, my Espresso Manifesto: to create works that proudly display the wonders of those earthy, complex, elegant, primal people, my people - the Italian people.” ~ Daniela Nardi

Buddy Holly Album Project

Posted by showbizdeluxe on January 13, 2012 at 11:25 AM Comments comments (0)

This is the first year in The Songmasters on going charitable efforts, “The celebration of Buddy Holly who would have celebrated his 75th Birthday this year.

At his young age, Buddy Holly was passionate about keeping his music alive and helping other young artists to do the same. Beside Holly’s musical legacy, Buddy Holly was a visionary in the early music business, developing his own label and his own studio well before these ideas became current in the industry. Holly also had other dreams to help talented peers break into and succeed in music. “Buddy did everything he could to make sure that talented young musicians and songwriters got a real chance,”explains Maria Elena Holly. “He would be especially thrilled, as I am, that so many outstanding artists are part of this effort to honor his personal commitment to recognize and help great young musical talent.” It is especially heartening that so many young artists want to join in fulfilling Holly’s dream as well.

Little did he know that his young life would be tragically cut short in February…the day the music died but his wish was fulfilled as Jackson Brown so eloquently expressed when he said, “The music didn’t die, the music became immortal”. His music influenced so many young artists..and we are talking about his legacy still today. Both old and younger artists were influenced by this young genius and the music he made.

Artists of all generations have given their time and talent for the love of Buddy’s music and to help the Songmasters’ program’s charitable efforts.

Kicked off with an acclaimed tribute album, Listen To Me: Buddy Holly, produced by Peter Asher (who has a lifelong relationship with Buddy’s music) featuring Stevie Nicks, Lyle Lovett, Ringo Starr, Pat Monahan (of Train, Jackson Browne,Patrick Stump, Cobra Starship, Imelda May, The Fray, Brian Wilson and more.

Artists at this once-in-a-lifetime event came from three generations and included Stevie Nicks, Lyle Lovett, Gram Nash, Shawn Colvin, Patrick Stump, Chris Isaak,Gram Nash, Cobra Starship, Legends like Phil Everly and Paul Anka …who knew and worked with Buddy…and more.

The Listen To Me: Buddy Holly celebration continues a year-long celebration that began on Buddy Holly’s 75th birthday and will continue his legacy for generations to come.
